Egypt is a country that literally walks with history all the times, from the dawn of civilization to modern times. Its grand temples and pyramids have attracted the tourists worldwide providing a glimpse in to the past.
Situated near suburbs of Cairo is probably the most famous ancient site in the world. The pyramids, together with the Sphinx at the base of the Giza plateau, are the iconic image of Egypt. Along with these major monuments are a number of smaller satellite structures, known as queen pyramids, causeways and temples.
One of the best places to visit in Egypt, the mid-sized city has much to offer the traveler from the ancient temples of Karnak and Luxor, to the ancient royal tombs of the Valley of kings and Queens, and spectacular desert and river scenery.
Abu Simbel is an archaeological site comprising two massive rock-cut temples carved out of mountains during the reign of Pharaoh Ramsey the great for himself and his queen Nefertariin southern Egypt on the western bank of Lake Nasser. The complex was relocated in its entirety in the 1960s, when the temples were threatened by submersion in Lake Nasser, due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
Dahshur is located in the desert on the west bank of the Nile River, south of Cairo. Pyramids at Dahshur include the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, constructed during the reign of Pharaoh Sneferu (2613-2589 BC).
Home to at least 120,000 items of ancient Egyptian antiquities, the Egyptian Museum are one of Cairo’s top attractions for collection of papyrus, coins and artefacts used by ancient Egyptians. Highlights include the objects from the Tomb of Tutankhamen and the Royal Mummy Room containing 27 royal mummies from pharaonic times.
The Valley of the Kings near Luxor contains 63 tombs and chambers with royal tombs decorated with scenes from Egyptian mythology and give clues to the beliefs and funerary rituals of the period. All of the tombs seem have been opened and robbed in antiquity except for the famous tomb of Tutankhamen.
Abydos Temple is one of the most fascinating artistic treasures with its great columns and walls covered in beautiful hieroglyphics and intricate paintings.
